I can’t remember where I saw it but, a couple of years ago, I stumbled across an old map of Hickling which clearly showed the basin extending to the west side of the road. The area that now is the Plough Inn, its garden and the neighbours next to the canal was shown as water mirroring the basin on the east side. I dismissed it as inaccurate (I may well have been researching something else in the library)and have since been told that it may have been a “plan” drawn up by the canal company. I can’t find the map again, on line, and am beginning to wonder if I imagined it.  Anyone help?
